Pandemic Bestsellers

Shopping habits shift: As we all know, panic in March led to out-of-stocks for items like flour, yeast and toilet paper as frenzied consumers prepared for the pandemic.

Fortunately, consumers buying habits have since evolved, and diversified beyond grocery and pharmacy staples.

This infographic shares some notable findings from recent consumption reports.

A few trends stand out:

1. IS VEGAN IN VOGUE?

Non-meat and non-dairy options like oat milk and fresh meat alternatives earned massive gains, giving flexitarians more choice.

2. GOOD TIMES

Alcohol, home cooking and ping pong help consumers (distract themselves and/or) make the most of the pandemic.

3. FITNESS

Athletic apparel and bicycles are in demand, suggesting some consumers are using this historic era to get ripped.

Honourable mention goes to false eyelashes, whose sales rose 15% week-over-week (!) in May, according to The Washington Post. Apparently, some consumers seek saucy, expressive eyes for their Zoom calls and masked outings.
